Developers are finishing work on an 800-seat theater off Interstate 12 in Satsuma that will bring Branson, Mo.-style shows to South Louisiana. Construction on Suma Hill Conference Center began in January and is slated for completion in April. Paco Swain says the theater was planned as a component of a larger family entertainment district Livingston Parish President Mike Grimmer proposed that included a water theme park. "When the economic meltdown hit, that got put on the back burner," Swain says. "This is the only aspect that survived for now." A grand opening is planned for 7:30 p.m. May 22, with the performance of Tony Roi as Elvis. Other scheduled performers include Penny Gilley, Doug Gabriel, Clay Cooper and the Lowe Family.
